A teleprompter for TikTok, Reels and Shorts

Short video is won or lost in the first two seconds. Read a scripted hook straight down the lens instead of fumbling the opening line take after take.

By Prompter · Updated

On TikTok, Reels and Shorts, the opening is the whole game — it is the only part of the clip most people ever see. A hook you have written and can read cleanly beats an improvised one that wanders, and it means you stop burning takes on the same first sentence.

The script scrolls over the front camera while you record vertical, so your eyes stay on the lens and the delivery stays quick.

Write the hook, read the hook

Write the first line word for word and keep it under about two seconds of speech. Everything after it can be loose, but the hook earns the view, so it is worth reading rather than remembering.

Keep the whole script short. Short-form delivery is faster than it feels on the page — a slow crawl makes you sound like you are reading, which is the one thing that kills a hook.

Run 1.4× or faster for short-form. You can change speed mid-take, so push it until it matches how quickly you actually talk to camera.

Vertical, front camera, eyes up

Hold or prop the phone at eye height and shoot vertical on the front camera. Because the words scroll over that same screen, there is almost no gap between reading and looking at the lens — the flick-down that reads as “scripted” never happens.

Size the text a little larger than you think for arm’s length — around 40 to 56 pt — so you can read from the middle of the screen without your eyes scanning side to side.

Clip typeScroll speedFont size
Hook / punchy talking1.5× – 1.8×40 – 52 pt
Explainer / list1.3× – 1.6×44 – 56 pt
Storytime1.2× – 1.5×44 – 56 pt

Post more without re-shooting more

Volume is the job on short-form, and re-shoots are the tax. A countdown of 3 seconds gets you rolling fast; Rehearse mode lets you run a hook a few times with the camera off and nothing saved before you commit one to Photos.

Keep the takes moving through small stumbles — you can trim the top in editing far more easily than you can recreate the energy of a first read.

Questions

Does it record vertical video for TikTok and Reels?

Yes. Hold the phone in portrait and record on the front camera; the script scrolls over the vertical frame. The recording is saved to your device ready to post.

How fast should the text scroll for short-form?

Faster than you would expect — around 1.4× to 1.8×. Short-form delivery is quick, and a slow scroll makes the read obvious. You can adjust the speed while recording.

Is it free for TikTok creators?

Yes, the teleprompter and recording are free. The free version adds a small watermark to exports and keeps two saved scripts; Prompter Pro removes the watermark and the script limit.
