How it works

From script to video in three steps

  1. Put your script in

    Type it, or paste it from Notes, Docs or your email. Every script shows a live word count and an estimated read time, so you know how long the take runs before you shoot it.

  2. Set the pace and the size

    Place the script beside the lens with lens-first mode, or move the script panel to suit your shot. Set a comfortable scroll speed, text size and contrast.

  3. Count down and record

    Choose a 3, 5 or 10 second countdown, then record with the front or back camera while the script scrolls over the frame. Or switch to Rehearse and run it with no camera at all.

    0.5× to 2×, adjustable while the camera is rolling. Drifting ahead costs you a nudge, not a re-shoot.

    Runs the script, records nothing, saves nothing. Practise the open twenty times if you want to.

  • Front or back camera

    Read off the selfie camera for talking head, or hand the phone over and shoot on the main lens.

Vlogs, Reels and short-form

Short video punishes a wandering opening. A scripted hook read straight down the lens holds the first two seconds, which is the only part of the clip most people ever see.

YouTube and talking head

Long takes are where notes off-camera show most: the eyes flick down every few seconds and the viewer feels it without knowing why. A prompter keeps the gaze where it belongs for ten minutes at a stretch.

Webinars, calls and lectures

Prop the phone by your webcam and read the parts that have to be exact — the definition, the disclaimer, the pricing slide — without a paper script rustling into the mic.

Teleprompter app questions

Is Prompter free?

Yes. Downloading the app and recording with the teleprompter is free. The free version includes 2 saved scripts and adds a small watermark to exported videos. Prompter Pro removes both.

What is Prompter called in the App Store?

This is the website for Prompter, listed in the English-language App Store as Teleprompter Script for Video. The download buttons on promp.app open that listing, where you can check compatibility, reviews and the latest version before downloading.

Can I record video and read the script at the same time?

That is the whole point. The script scrolls over the live camera view while you record, so you read the next line and look at the lens at once. Front and back cameras both work.

Can I use it without recording?

Yes — Rehearse mode runs the script with no camera at all. Nothing is recorded and nothing is saved, so it works as a plain teleprompter for practising a speech, running lines, or reading to an external camera.

How fast does the text scroll?

Anywhere from 0.5× to 2×, and you can change it while you are recording. Each script also shows an estimated read time before you start, based on its word count.

Do my scripts and videos leave my phone?

Your scripts and recordings stay on your device unless you choose to share or export them. No account is required. The privacy policy explains the separate analytics and subscription services used by the app. Export recordings you want to keep before deleting it.

Does it work on iPad?

Yes. Prompter runs on iPhone and iPad, and needs iOS or iPadOS 16.4 or later.

What does Prompter Pro include?

Unlimited scripts and no watermark on any recording. It is an auto-renewing subscription. Available plans and the price for your region are shown in the app before you confirm.

How do I cancel a subscription?

Subscriptions are handled by Apple. Open Settings, tap your name, then Subscriptions, and turn off auto-renewal at least 24 hours before the current period ends.
